Peloton Files Two Patents for Workouts That Adapt in Real Time
Two patent applications published in late August describe a system that adjusts a workout mid-session based on heart rate. More relevant to structured Hyrox training than to the bike itself.
Peloton published two patent applications on August 27, 2026, originally filed in February 2025 under CTO Francis Shanahan. The first describes a system that modifies a workout in real time: inserting, removing, shortening, or replacing a segment based on performance data like heart rate. The second targets audio coaching, using a language model to generate personalized cues and speech synthesis that mimics a specific coach's style.
The examples in the filings are concrete: a runner finishing intervals faster than planned gets a cue to slow the next segment, a strength set judged too hard automatically drops to six reps. Peloton IQ, launched in October 2025, already runs part of this logic; nearly half of active members had used the feature by the second quarter of 2026, per company figures.
None of this touches the Peloton bike directly for a Hyrox competitor, but the underlying idea addresses a real training question: adjusting a sled push or burpee session to the day's actual fatigue level instead of sticking to a plan written weeks in advance. The patents remain pending, with no commercial launch date announced. CEO Peter Stern sums up the ambition in one line: moving from counting what an athlete did to coaching what they should do next.
