The quick guide

What gear for a functional fitness race?

Which shoes should I pick for a functional fitness race?

You need a shoe that is stable at the heel for lifting and flexible enough to run in. Cross training models such as the Nike Metcon or the Reebok Nano are built for that balance. For long running sections, a pair of running shoes is still more comfortable.

Shoes

Do I need grips or gloves?

Grips and gloves protect your palms on pull-ups and bars. Straps and wrist wraps are for heavy loads. Choose according to the movement that bothers you, not the current gym fashion.

What should I bring to last through the event?

An energy gel your stomach tolerates, tested in training, and an insulated bottle for before and after. The golden rule: never try a new product on race day. Maurten gels are among the most widely used.

Frequently asked questions

Why do some products show no price?

We only show a price when it comes straight from the merchant's catalogue, read every day. Without that source (as with Amazon products), the button takes you to the merchant page, where today's price is displayed.

Are the products chosen independently?

Yes. We pick gear that athletes use a lot and that is well rated. We may earn a commission on a purchase, at no extra cost to you.

How does the selection change?

A featured product changes every week, and new products are added as our guides and news grow.
